Goffin Cockatoo for Sale

Female Goffin Cockatoo for Sale

Goffin Cockatoo for Sale The Goffin’s cockatoo is naturally found in the Tanimbar Islands of Indonesia. Its habitat includes the tropical forests of Larat, Selaru, and Yamdena within the Maluku province. These birds can also be found in New Guinea.

Temperament

They are playful, curious, and energetic birds. These birds are highly intelligent, which can sometimes lead to mischievous or even intimidating behaviors. They can learn to open their cage latches after watching you a few times. You can expect a clever escape artist in your home.

Speech and Vocalizations

Compared to many other parrots, Goffin’s cockatoos are relatively quiet.
However, they will vocalize when they want attention. They are not the best talkers, but with consistent training, they can learn to say a few words. They mimic sounds they hear, so if you play music, they might even join in and dance along.

Goffin’s Cockatoo Colors and Markings

It is mostly white with light salmon or pink markings on either side of its beak. These salmon hues also appear near the head when the bird spreads its crest. Under its wings, there may be a pale yellow tint, which makes its flight especially beautiful.

The bird has a pale gray beak and feet. The main difference between males and females is in their eyes. Male Goffin’s have black eyes, while females have brown eyes.

Caring for a Goffin’s Cockatoo

Goffin’s cockatoos are loving and affectionate, forming strong bonds with their owners.
They require daily interaction to stay mentally and emotionally healthy.

Establishing clear boundaries early in the relationship is important.
Finding a balance between too much and too little attention helps the bird become well-socialized while also learning to be comfortable with some time alone.

The Goffin’s cockatoo  and the Zebra finches is a popular pet for those with limited space since it does not require as much room as larger cockatoo species. However, the minimum cage size is still quite large: 5 feet tall by 24 inches deep by 36 inches wide. These birds like to chew and can damage cages, so choose a sturdy one, preferably made of wrought iron.

Common Health Problems

Other common diseases include psittacine beak and feather disease (a viral condition), as well as fatty liver disease and obesity. These conditions can result from a high-fat diet and a lack of exercise.

Diet and Nutrition

In the wild, Goffin’s cockatoos eat seeds, fruits, nuts, berries, blossoms, roots, leaf buds, and occasionally insects. Due to habitat loss, they have adapted to foraging on farmed grains.

In captivity, all cockatoos, including Goffin’s, can easily gain weight. Owners should monitor fat intake. A high-quality, formulated pellet should make up 75% of the bird’s diet. A variety of raw vegetables, grains, greens, fruits, and occasional nuts should comprise the remaining 25%.

Exercise

Goffin’s cockatoos are active birds that need regular physical activity to stay healthy.
Owners should provide at least three to four hours of supervised out-of-cage time each day for play and exercise. This time also helps the bird develop independence.

Out-of-cage time is ideal for training. Be consistent to keep the bird calm and well-adjusted in your home. A play stand is a useful accessory. Birds will use it like a personal gym, where they can play with toys, climb, grab treats, and eat snacks.

Offer interactive toys to ensure the bird remains physically and mentally stimulated.
Provide puzzles like knots to untie or items to disassemble. Chew toys help satisfy their natural instinct to bite. Engage their foraging instincts by hiding toys or treats for them to find.
