Hahns Macaw for Sale​ scientifically described as Diopsittaca Nobilis Nobilis (formerly Ara Nobilis), is the smallest of all macaw species. There are three subspecies of Diopsittaca Nobilis. These mini macaw parrots for sale are collectively known as red-shouldered macaws.

Hahn’s are not only the smallest of the macaw species but also the smallest member of the red-shouldered macaw group. It is a very small macaw reaching only about 12″ (30cm) in total length. The other two subspecies, the noble macaw and the long-winged macaw are slightly larger, reaching about 13″-14 ” (31-33cm).

All three parrots have a green body that becomes more yellow below. They also have blue on their forehead and crown and along the outer primary feathers of the upper wings. The name red-shouldered” comes with a red accent along the fender bend. Their main color distinction between these three is that Hahn’s macaw has a black beak, unlike the pale cream-colored upper beak on the other two.

Due to their small size and coloration, red-shouldered macaws are sometimes confused with conures. This is not surprising since they have a close morphological relationship. The Blue Crown Conure is an inch or two larger than these macaws, reaching up to 14 1/2″ (37 cm) in length.

Hand-raised red-shouldered macaws are considered the easiest to care for and make excellent family pets. They become very docile and are very easy to manage. They are also brilliant mimics, capable of an extensive vocabulary for a macaw. In his book All About Parrots, author Arthur Freud talks about a noble macaw with a vocabulary of over 50 words. However, most macaws’ vocabulary is only about 15-20 words.

Speech and Vocalizations

And, if you get a pairs of Hahn’s parrot, the noise will be twist loud. So expect this bird to take on the role of your morning wake-up call at sunrise.

The compact size makes them suitable for bird lovers who live in smaller spaces or anyone with children. However, these birds are not suitable for apartment living; they can be quite loud when they feel like it.

Hahn’s Macaw Colors and Markings

In addition, they have a bright red patch on the underside of their wings, which explains their nickname “shouldered macaw”.
