Magna Double Yellow Headed Amazon for Sale
Double Yellow Headed Amazon for Sale, This parrot is originally from Mexico and Central and South America. However, habitat destruction and capturing these birds for the pet trade have greatly reduced their numbers in the wild. Today, only a few thousand wild birds remain.
Temperament
Double Yellow Headed Amazon If raised by hand from a young age, these parrots can become affectionate pets. However, problems can arise if the owner is unable or unwilling to provide the attention these birds require.
Like several other parrot species, double yellow-headed Amazons may go through a hormonal phase as they reach sexual maturity, which can happen between 4 months and 1 year of age.
During this time, they can become aggressive and may attack people. This behavior can last for several months sometimes even up to two years.
These parrots tend to bond closely with one person in the family.
To prevent this, make sure all family members handle the bird regularly, especially when it is young. Hand-feeding the bird by several people can help reduce the likelihood that it will become attached to only one individual.
Speech and Vocalizations
This species is known for being the best mimic among Amazon parrots and is second only to the African gray in its ability to learn words and phrases.
They are also known to be vocal and loud, often making loud noises twice a day, usually at dawn and dusk. These loud calls are typical for the species. However, constant screaming throughout the day can be problematic and may occur if the bird is bored or not getting enough attention and mental stimulation.
Double Yellow-Headed Amazon Parrot Colors and Markings
As the name suggests, this bird has a yellow head, with the rest of its body being green.
Younger birds have some dark gray on their heads, which gradually becomes more yellow with each molt. Some young birds also show small patches of red on their shoulders. The full yellow color of the head is not complete until the bird is at least six years old. The amount of yellow can increase as the bird ages.
Caring for the Double Yellow-Headed Amazon
The double yellow-headed Amazon is an active bird that likes to climb and fly if there is enough space. At the very least, the cage should be 3 feet square with a play area on top. Include perches of different sizes.
A bird feels satisfied when it destroys a toy. Without enough such toys, the parrot may start damaging furniture and other items. Providing challenging toys is important for this breed, as a bored double yellow-headed Amazon can quickly become destructive.
All Amazon parrots thrive on social interaction and need it to stay healthy and happy.
Neglect can lead to destructive and depressed behavior, which may cause various physical and emotional issues. To maintain a healthy bond, set aside daily time for one-on-one interaction. The double yellow-headed Amazon can learn many words and phrases and is especially good at learning songs, such as opera.
Allow the bird to bathe or soak in a birdbath at least once a week to keep its skin and feathers healthy.
Common Health Issues
While Amazon parrots are generally healthy and long-lived, they are susceptible to various diseases:
– Polyomavirus: A viral infection that can lead to lack of appetite and weight loss
– Chlamydiosis: A bacterial infection that causes fluffed feathers and nasal discharge
Diet and Nutrition
In the wild, these parrots eat a variety of seeds, nuts, fruits, berries, and vegetation.
A diverse diet ensures the bird gets all the nutrition it needs. Aim to feed approximately 3/4 cup of pelleted food and 1/4 cup of fresh fruits and vegetables daily. A raw and varied diet can help your bird stay in top condition.
Make sure the parrot receives foods rich in vitamin A, as it is prone to deficiency.
Calcium is also important for the health of the double yellow-headed Amazon parrot.
Exercise
Because these parrots are prone to gaining too much weight, they require daily exercise.
To properly care for a double yellow-headed Amazon, provide at least 3 to 4 hours of supervised time outside of the cage each day. Regular exercise helps burn excess calories, builds muscle, and offers important mental stimulation.

1st Double Yellow Headed Amazon I have had in years and I don’t think that I could have gone to a better breeder. All the birds looked in great condition and all were kept clean and tidy. Jessica was very helpful and knowledgeable and helped me pick the bird I wanted. I would recommend pet Birds breeders to anyone wanting a new bird.
