Citron Cockatoo for Sale

Baby Citron Cockatoo for Sale

Citron Cockatoo for Sale, it typically inhabits tropical forests, especially areas near the edges of these forests. This species is officially listed as endangered and is classified as critically endangered in its native habitat due to the loss of its natural environment and illegal capture for the pet trade.

Temperament

They tend to be more introverted than other types of cockatoos and may need some time to adjust to new environments.

Once they feel comfortable, citron cockatoos are curious and affectionate, often preferring to stay close to their human companions. Cockatoos, in general, require more attention than other types of parrots, and citron cockatoos are a prime example of this.

In general, cockatoos are intelligent and can learn to speak and perform tricks such as dancing, waving, and fetching.

Speech and Vocalizations

Birds that learn to talk are most vocal in the morning.
Citron cockatoos are not as skilled at mimicking sounds as other parrots, usually learning only about 15 words or phrases. While generally quiet by parrot standards, they can become quite loud, producing growls that may escalate into sharp, high-pitched screams. Because of this, citron cockatoos are not ideal for apartment or condominium living, as their loud noises can disturb neighbors.

Citron-Crested Cockatoo Colors and Markings

Citron cockatoos are mostly white, with light orange patches on their cheeks, pale yellow underparts on their wings and tail feathers, and a bright orange crest that sets them apart from other sulfur-crested cockatoos with yellow crests. They have dark gray feet and grayish-black beaks.

Males and females have similar appearances, but males have black eyes, while females have brown eyes. This difference becomes noticeable only once they reach maturity, which typically occurs between the ages of 3 to 5 years.

Caring for a Citron-Crested Cockatoo

Like all cockatoos, citron cockatoos are social and need a lot of human interaction to remain emotionally balanced. If neglected, they may start screaming or engaging in destructive behavior. Some owners find that their citron cockatoos enjoy having the television or radio on, especially when they like music.

Although citron cockatoos are among the smaller cockatoo species, they still need a large living space. A minimum cage size should be 4 feet long, 4 feet wide, and at least 4 feet tall.

Common Health Problems

The citron-crested cockatoo is at risk of psittacosis, a disease caused by the bacteria *Chlamydia psittici. Birds that feel ignored or lack human interaction are more likely to engage in this behavior.

Diet and Nutrition

In the wild, they consume seeds, nuts, berries, and fruits. A healthy diet for a pet citron cockatoo should include high-quality pellets, a daily serving of fresh, bird-safe fruits and vegetables, and occasional seeds or nuts as rewards for good behavior.

Start by offering about 1/4 cup of formulated diet and 1/4 cup of fresh fruits and vegetables each day. If the bird finishes all the food, add small amounts gradually as needed. Avoid feeding birds avocados or chocolate, as these are harmful to them.

Exercise

All parrots need regular exercise, and citron cockatoos are no different. Provide a minimum of 3 to 4 hours of out-of-cage time each day for the bird to play and move around.

This time also offers essential social interaction.
Consider using this time to teach them to talk and engage with them to fulfill their social needs.

Cockatoos have strong beaks and jaws among parrots. Offer a variety of durable, safe chew toys.
