African Timneh Parrot for Sale

Timneh Parrot for Sale All Timneh African Grey Parrots are highly intelligent.
They closely observe and watch everything around them in their home environment.

Appearance

They typically reach a length of about 10 inches. Their feathers are grey with white markings. The color on their stomach is a lighter grey, gradually turning almost white toward the tail. Their tail is not the bright red color typical of Congos, but rather a darker maroon. Their beaks are a pale white or horn-like color, and their feet are slightly lighter in black than those of the Congo African Grey.

However, because of their intelligence, they can develop certain behavioral issues if not properly trained and socialized. Without enough mental stimulation, they may develop neurotic behaviors or even engage in self-harming actions. If not well-socialized, they can also become aggressive biters.

Timneh African Greys typically live between 50 to 65 years, but with improved diets and care, they are now known to live even longer. It is important to carefully consider the purchase of a companion bird, as these are long-term commitments and lifelong companions.

Caring for a Timneh Parrot

The African grey parrot is a medium- to large-sized bird that requires adequate living space.
A minimum cage size should be at least 2 feet by 2 feet in width and 3 feet in height. Larger cages are preferable. Owners should plan to spend several hours a day engaging with and training their African grey. Many people report that African greys enjoy having the TV or radio on when they are alone.

Diet and Nutrition of Timneh Parrot

The ideal diet for Timneh Parrot in captivity should include a high-quality, formulated pellet diet.

Timneh Parrot often enjoy a range of treats and snacks, including nuts and healthy foods from the human table, such as steamed green beans, breakfast toast, and salad. Provide your bird with half a cup of pellet-based parrot mix and a quarter cup of fruits and vegetables each day, adjusting the amount based on their appetite. Any uneaten fresh food should be removed and discarded by the end of the day.

Temperament

It is important to provide the bird with plenty of mental stimulation. A highly intelligent bird can also be a complex pet. While they are very social and require interaction, they are not always cuddly. Some African grey parrots may become “one-person” birds, even if the owner makes a concerted effort to socialize them with all family members.
