Blue Yellow Naped Amazon for Sale
Yellow Naped Amazon for Sale Sometimes thought of as a subspecies of the yellow-crowned Amazon parrot, these birds are naturally found on the Pacific coast of Central America and the northern part of South America. They mainly live in southern Mexico and the northwest of Costa Rica.
Temperament
Yellow-naped Amazons are intelligent, playful birds that enjoy being the focus of attention.
They often form very strong bonds with their owners.
However, like many Amazons, yellow-naped Amazons go through a hormonal phase when they reach sexual maturity, which typically happens between 4 months and 1 year of age. This phase can last up to two years and may involve biting and other aggressive behaviors. It is more common in males, and some birds may act out more than others. For this reason, some people prefer to choose a female.
Speech and Vocalizations
These parrots don’t screech as much as others but can get quite loud at times.
They are excellent talkers and singers. You can train them to learn a wide range of words with clear, human-like speech. Be mindful of what you say, as they tend to remember phrases and repeat them repeatedly.
Yellow-Naped Amazon Parrot Colors and Markings
Yellow-headed (Double Yellow-headed) Amazon, Yellow-crowned Amazon, and Panama Amazon. They share similar green body but the yellow-naped Amazons are mostly bright green in color.
Their name comes from the bright yellow patch on the lower part of the neck. There is also often a yellow mark on the forehead and crown, and their wing feathers have red streaks. Their beaks and feet are typically gray to black.
There is a special color variation of this bird, which has blue-green feathers, with darker turquoise on the wings and a white spot on the nape. This variation is rare and very valuable in the bird trade.
Caring for a Yellow-Naped Amazon Parrot
They need a lot of attention and time for one-on-one interaction each day. This is important for building and maintaining a healthy relationship with your bird.
These birds require a lot of social interaction to stay happy and healthy.
If left alone too much, they can develop destructive habits or become depressed. Depression and anxiety can lead to physical and emotional issues, such as feather pulling and biting.
Because of this, it’s important to ask about the background of any mature bird you are considering adopting. Past problems, trauma, or poor training can result in a bird that is very difficult to rehabilitate, even for professional behaviorists.
Potential owners should remember that adopting a yellow-naped Amazon means caring for an animal that is as intelligent and emotional as a human toddler.
Make sure you provide a cage that is large enough, at least 3 square feet.
Though they may look small, they still need space to move and play. Keep them entertained when you are away by adding ladders, perches, and interactive toys to their cage.
Common Health Problems
Feather-picking, often due to neglect or lack of mental or physical stimulationPoor eating habits and obesity, which can be avoided with a healthy, balanced diet and daily exercise
Diet and Nutrition
In the wild, Amazon parrots eat a mix of seeds, nuts, fruits, berries, and vegetation.
Like all Amazon parrots, yellow-naped Amazons are prone to obesity when kept in captivity.
Obesity can shorten a bird’s life and lead to serious health issues such as tumors. Provide your bird with a healthy diet, limit high-fat foods like seeds and nuts, and give them daily exercise.
Yellow-naped Amazons do best on a high-quality pelleted diet, supplemented with a seed mix.
Include fresh, bird-safe fruits and vegetables in their daily meals to ensure they get the necessary vitamins and nutrients. A varied, raw diet will help your bird maintain optimal health.
Exercise
A yellow-naped Amazon needs at least 3 hours of outdoor time each day to burn calories and exercise their muscles. This helps prevent weight gain and gives them mental stimulation.
Teaching them tricks or giving them puzzle toys can help keep their minds active. Provide toys that encourage chewing and help them burn energy while they are in their cage.
