Indian Ringneck Parakeet for Sale

Blue Indian Ringneck Parakeet for Sale

Indian Ringneck Parakeet for Sale The Indian ringneck parakeet is a subspecies of the rose-ringed parakeet (Psittacula krameri), originally found in Ceylon. In the wild, they live in lightly wooded areas and farmlands.  The Indian Ringneck Parakeet for Sale has been kept in captivity since as early as 200 B.C.  In the 1920s, aviculturists began breeding these birds in captivity. The introduction of various color mutations helped increase their popularity. Today, they are widely available as pets. Their small size and attractive appearance make them a popular choice for many bird enthusiasts.

Temperament

During their adolescence, they may go through a confusing stage where they act slightly aggressive, but this phase is usually short, lasting only a few weeks or months.

They have a high-pitched, soft voice and are great at alerting their owners to danger with loud calls. While they may not be very affectionate by nature, females tend to form stronger bonds with humans, whereas males are more laid-back. These birds are low-maintenance but require a lot of time and attention.

Speech and Vocalizations

The Indian ringneck parakeet is among the best talking birds.
They can start speaking between 8 months and 1 year of age and can learn over 200 words.

In addition to speaking, they are excellent whistlers.
However, they can be quite loud when they screech, making them unsuitable for apartment living.

Indian Ringneck Parakeet Colors and Markings

Indian ringneck parakeets come in a variety of colors, including bright yellow, green, blue, albino, cinnamon, and lutino. Their typical color is bright lime green with blue tail feathers and yellow under their wings. They are not slightly robust like the Alexandrine Parakeet.

These birds are dimorphic, meaning their color and markings can help determine their sex.
Males have a deep red beak, black facial markings, and three colored bands around their neck. The black ring appears around 18 months, while blue and pink rings develop by the time they are 3 years old. Females do not have the same facial or neck markings, though some may show a slight darkening of color around the neck.

Caring for the Indian Ringneck Parakeet

With proper attention, handling, and care, an Indian ringneck parakeet can become a devoted companion. They enjoy learning and thrive when challenged with new tasks, which is why they can develop large vocabularies and perform clever tricks.

If your bird exhibits aggressive behavior, avoid scolding it, as this can lead to long-term fear.
Instead, ignore the bad behavior and reward good behavior with positive reinforcement.

The cage should be large enough to allow the bird to move around comfortably.
Clean the food and water bowls daily, the perches and toys weekly, and the cage floor monthly. Once a year, take everything outside to rinse it thoroughly.

Common Health Problems

While Indian ringneck parakeets are generally healthy, they are susceptible to several diseases, including:

(1) Psittacosis- Also known as parrot fever, it can be life-threatening with symptoms like puffy eyes, loss of appetite, nasal discharge, and abnormal droppings.

(2) Polyomavirus- A deadly disease that affects young parrots.

(3) Aspergillosis-A fungal infection affecting the respiratory system, causing coughing, difficulty breathing, and lethargy.

(4) Bacterial infections-Such as chlamydiosis and avian mycobacteriosis.

For the best care, consult an avian veterinarian or a vet experienced with exotic birds.

Diet and Nutrition

In the wild, Indian ringnecks eat fruits, vegetables, nuts, berries, seeds, flowers, and nectar.
However, offering a variety of fruits and vegetables is also beneficial. Leafy greens and other vegetables should be a regular part of their diet.
